MISSION:DOER 3

God is our perfect and loving Heavenly Father and He wants us to acknowledge Him as completely sovereign over every decision and direction of our life.  He doesn’t want this because He’s a control freak.  It’s for our success and our victory.  When we resist His authority over our lives and say “no” to His leadership and guidance, we grieve the Holy Spirit, who is God’s helper and teacher with us. The word grieve in normal language means “we break his heart.”  God feels pain.

Sin is identified in the Bible as human actions that go against God’s instructions.  For example in Proverbs 3:5-6 God instructs us to trust Him with all our hearts and think about Him.  Self sufficiency and ignoring God are actions that go against these instructions and are therefore defined as sin.  Sin in the life of the believer causes the Holy Spirit to feel pain.  His pain won’t stop until we get rid of our sin. How do we do that?  By confession and repentance.  2 Cor. 7:10 teaches us that godly sorrow leads us away from sin, which is the definition of repentance.  There are some sins that we cherish and treasure.  We don’t want to let go of them.  Until we’re honestly sorry and experience sorrow for our sin, we’ll be unable to please God.

As you read the Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to help you not only identify the sin in your life, but give you godly sorrow about it so that you’ll be able to turn away from it and begin to govern your life and stand on the truths found in God’s Word.
