Share your Memory Verse from the last lesson
Discuss what makes Ruth a woman of excellence
Human character traits
- Remembering that one of the definitions of excellence is: the quality of excelling; possessing good qualities in high degree, this week we’re going to look at how this relates to human character traits.
Character is defined as:
- The combination of qualities or features that distinguishes one person, group, or thing from another.
- A distinguishing feature or attribute, as of an individual, group, or category.
- Moral or ethical strength.
- A description of a person’s attributes, traits, or abilities.
A trait is defined as a distinguishing feature
World’s View
The table below shows the world’s view regarding various traits that make up a human. They are the traits of human consciousness; or endowments of human character. They are grouped within the categories of an individual’s (1) attitudes, (2) miscellaneous attributes and (3) skills. Each trait is shown in two ways; how it manifests in a positive way in a person, and how it manifests negatively in a person. I have highlighted the traits that are immediately recognized as un-biblical in nature.

God’s view
Beginning with Adam and Eve’s choice to disobey God and do things their own way, pride and rebellion took root in the hearts of mankind. These foundational sins still flow from mankind’s heart, unchecked, undermining our characters and causing us to make choices that are evil, corrupt and contrary to God. These choices are what mold and shape our characters. Can we change these negative character traits?

Life Application: Discuss
Memory Verse: Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfet.
